Sharon Mathias Cain is a Licensed Independent Social Worker. She earned her Masters of Social Work Degree from The University of Akron. She has experience working in a variety of venues for over 20 years. Prior to clinical work, she spent a year working for AmeriCorps as a VISTA volunteer working with homeless families. After that, she taught teens who were at risk for dropping out of high school. Sharon has experience clinically treating clients with diagnoses such as anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress disorder, adjustment disorders and attachment difficulties. She has worked with children in foster care and adoptive families. Sharon has extensive experience in trauma treatment of people of all ages . She has treated trauma through therapeutic play with kids as young as 4. Sharon uses various modalities, including narrative, EMDR, Person Centered Therapy and help clients understand the vital importance of the physiological effects of trauma and stress and how to use skills to regulate these stress responses. Sharon was born and raised in Tuscarawas County and enjoys gardening, hiking, camping and spending time with her family and friends and golden retriever, Chewbacca.
